What is the Practicum?
Students must complete a minimum 240 contact hour practicum as part of the MPH degree requirement. Placements are available at a wide range of local, national, and international community organizations, with projects that are aligned with each student’s area of study for an applied practice experience in public health. Projects are designed to be of relevance and need to the organization as well. Up to 30 hours of the practicum may consist of a literature review of the focus of the project to identify best practices and obtain relevant background information. Preceptors are selected based on their formal training and experience in public health, and have managerial authority and responsibility within their organization, providing students with access to the community’s top-level leaders.
