MPH Program

MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH(MPH)

The Master of Public Health program is for anyone with a passion for improving health on a large scale. The MPH program integrates academic rigor with real-world solutions to promote healthy communities, and offers concentrations in Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Systems Administration, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. Our program attracts mid-career professionals who want to engage in preventive health, but is also suited for graduates of various disciplines, such as anthropology, business, dietetics, medicine, law, nursing, psychology, and social work, among others. With evening courses on campus and online, it is a program designed to fit busy lifestyles. Graduates with an MPH are in high demand; by 2020, over 250,000 more public health professionals will be needed to fill critical leadership positions in private, non-profit, government, and international organizations.

Admission to the MPH program will be based on selection from a pool of applicants who meet the minimum undergraduate GPA and graduate examination scores. Applicants are required to submit scores for the verbal and quantitative components of the GRE, or meet one of the other requirements as indicated below. Courses in health-related fields (e.g., anatomy, physiology, nutrition, psychology, chemistry) are not required, but are strongly recommended. Prior work in the health field is not necessary for admission but may be considered in the admission process. A multi-disciplinary faculty committee will determine admission to the MPH program; criteria for the selection process are broad due to the wide range of applicant experience and disciplines of study.

Consideration is given to the following in determining admissions to the MPH Program:
• Undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a four-point scale from an accredited college or university, or a GPA of 3.5 or higher in the major subject area
• A recent GRE score (within the past five years)
• Applicants with a doctoral degree or professional equivalent obtained in the US are exempt from the GRE requirement
• Applicants who are enrolled in a post-baccalaureate degree program may substitute other standardized test scores (MCAT, DAT, GMAT, or LSAT) for the GRE
• Three letters of recommendation
• Applicant’s written statement of purpose (400-500 words) of interests and career goals
• Applicants whose native language is not English are expected to have an acceptable score on either the Test for English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) , or the International English Language Test System (IELTS)
